Due to the expense of the AFA Workshops, people who fail to attend without the courtesy of notification will be placed on the waiting list for future workshops.  As many districts have requirements for professional development, AFA workshops have long waiting lists due to limited space.

Make Learning a Blast

Are you wanting to motivate your students in the fields of science, math and social studies? You can do it all with the excitement of model rockets!  This hands-on program provides the basics of integrating rocketry into the classroom for all grade levels. Activities are based on the National Science Content Standards for unifying concepts and processes, science as inquiry, physical science, and science and technology. Participants will build a model rocket while learning how rocketry can inspire and motivate students in this multidisciplinary approach. Model rocket launching information will be provided.  Presenter:  Cindy Henry, Aerospace Educator at the National Museum of the USAF

Ready for Take-off

Are you looking for real world mathematics, science and geography applications? You can combine all these through flight planning! This program is geared towards middle and high school students. The presenter will lead you through map reading, plotting a course, determining how much fuel you will need and calculating your time, distance and speed. Activities are linked to National Academic Content standards in Science and Mathematics. Participants will be provided with a map, plotter and a student CSG Computer. The presenter will also discuss the requirements for obtaining a Private Pilot license.  Presenters:  Don Meyer, Certified Flight Instructor and Judith Wehn, Chief, Education Division at the National Museum of the USAF

The Expo Center is well air conditioned and we are unable to control the temperature.  The viewing area for the Thunderbirds demo is in full sun and NOT air conditioned.  Please come prepared for these extreme conditions with a sweater and sun protection.  Cameras are permitted.
